Hotel History
Habits may change, but the tradition of welcoming remains
Palácio Santa Catarina is a true compendium of history and the life of the local aristocracy. It accompanied the life of the noble Corte-Real family, serving as their home for centuries, and the prayers of the clergy when it became the property of the Diocese of Angra do Heroísmo, serving as the official residence of the Bishop of Angra. It served to extend its original purpose, that of welcoming those who come in goodwill, as evidenced by the presence of Pope John Paul II, who rested there during his visit to the Azores in 1991. A reference of belonging and a place from which one can embark on an immersive journey to discover the cultural heritage of Terceira Island.
